Finding Events

One of the joys of an active Aftergame community is that you might discover your new favourite game night.

You can always search for an event you know the name of in any Aftergame search bar.

To browse events, open the Explore tab and make sure Events is selected at the top.

By default, you’ll see results near you in all categories. You can change or remove your location by tapping on it.

If there are any Featured events in your vicinity, those will be shown at the top, followed by a few more categories.

Tap on any heading to open the full list of relevantevents and planned games that you can explore and filter however you like.

Upcoming

A chronological list of the upcoming events near you.

Join your friends

A chronological list of events that one or more of your friends has marked themselves as attending. In the list view, you’ll be able to see which friends are attending each event.

Happening in your groups

A chronological list of all events happening in all of the groups you’ve joined. You can filter this (or any) event list to show only events from a particular group.

Virtual events

A chronological list of events happening in a digital space within a similar timezone of your current location.

A chronological list of all events that you can filter however you wish.

Filtering Events

Click into one of the rows or tap All events at the bottom to apply custom filters to your search.

  1. Where

    By default, your results will be from the city you’ve set as yours, so you’ll see games that are in your local area and large events (like conventions) within a short plane ride.

    You can change the city you’re browsing by tapping it**.** You might want to change your city if you’ll be traveling so you can plan games and events for when you’re away. You can also remove your city to see what’s happening globally.

    If you have the box above the search bar ticked, the city you search will either be saved or updated to your profile as your city (this will affect your default results on the events page).

    Choose how far you’re willing to travel with the distance bar.

  2. Search

    You can search here for an event name or a specific game. If searching for a game, if there are any relevant planned games, they’ll show up here. It’s a handy way of checking whether there’s any games to join when you’re want to try out that new exciting game everyone’s talking about!

  3. Filters

    You can fine tune your search results in lots of ways.

    1. Date: By default, you’ll see upcoming events. You can choose instead to see past events or see results for a custom date range.

    2. Friends: Show events that your friends are going to. Choose one or more specific friends or All friends.

    3. Groups: Like with friends, you can choose to see events happening in specific groups or all of your groups.

    4. In person or virtual: By default, you’ll see all events. You can choose to see only in person or only virtual.

    5. Available spaces: By default, you see all games. You can choose to see only games/events that have a certain number of free seats/spaces.

    6. Within an event?: Choose whether or not you want to see games that are part of a larger event.

    7. Playing time: Choose how long you’d like to play (approximately) in minutes.

    8. Suitable age: Choose if you’d like games good for certain ages.

    9. Game complexity: You can choose the weight of the game you want to play. Check multiple boxes if you want to see a range.

    10. Type of tabletop game: There are five types of games on Aftergame: board games, role playing games, trading card games, social deduction games and war games. You can choose what you want to see.

    11. Game list: Select a specific game list through which to filter your search results. You’ll see any planned games that are on that list.

    12. My attendance: Filter events by how you’ve responded to them. Choose to see events to which you’re Hosting, Invited, Going or Not going.

    13. Help wanted: Filter for games that are looking for a Teacher or Game Master.

    14. Specific game: Search for any instances of a specific game being planned.

Don’t forget to Apply filters once you’ve chosen them.

Once you’ve found an exciting event, open it to join the fun.

Groups

To search for a new group or browse the groups in your area, go to the Explore tab at the bottom, then Groups at the top.

By default, you’ll see things near you if you have a location set. You can change your city and search radius by tapping into the location.
