How to navigate the Events tab on Aftergame
The Events tab houses the most exciting social aspects of Aftergame. From here, you can see conventions, plan local games and meetups, and see all the events you've previously attended. Let's break down the five filters in the Events tab.
1. When
The default is to show you upcoming games but you can adjust the list to show you games and events from the past or that are happening in a specific time frame.
- Upcoming: See all the upcoming events happening near you.
- Past: This view is most useful for finding a game you’ve just finished playing as it will only stay on the Upcoming page for 30 minutes after the scheduled start time. You might want to find the game you just played because you can easily log the play from there. It’s especially handy if you haven’t become friends with all the other players yet because you don’t have to search for them. The past view is also good for the memories.
- Custom: You can enter a date range. This is useful for travelling when used in conjunction with the Where filter. You can see what events will be happening in the city you’re traveling to while you’re there.
2. Where
By default, your results will be from the city you’ve set as yours, so you’ll see games that are in your local area and large events (like conventions) within a short plane ride.
You can change the city you’re browsing by tapping on Where. You might want to change your city if you’ll be traveling so you can plan games and events for when you’re away.
If you want to then check out a different city, tap Where again and tap Remove under your current selection then tap Where and enter your new city.
If you have the box above the search bar ticked, the city you search will either be saved or updated to your profile as your city (this will affect your default results on the events page).
3. Events
This is where you'll see all the conventions and larger gaming events that are using Aftergame within a short plane ride of your current city and all the smaller gaming events (like meetups and game nights) in your local area.
Opening an event will show you a bunch of things:
- Host: The person or group hosting the event will be shown at the top under the banner image.
- Date, time, and location: If an end time is listed, please be prepared to honour that.
- Tickets: If an event requires you to have a ticket, there will be a link to the ticket website.
- Plan a Game: Tap Plan a game to add a game you’d like to play to the event.
- Add to calendar: This lets you add the event to your calendar with one tap so you never forget an event.
- Games library: The library will show all the games the host can verify will be available at the event. Other players will likely be able to supplement the selection from their own collections, too.
- About: This should give you more info about the kind of people and games you can expect to encounter at this event.
- Schedule: Some events have a lot of games so filtering the list makes it easier to find what you’re looking for. The event’s games can be filtered in two places:
You can claim a seat in any game that appeals to you (as long as it still has space) by tapping on the game and then on Claim a Seat.
⭐ If the game you want to play is full or you don't see anything you like, you can plan a game of your own for others to join.
- All / Seats available / Going
- All: This is the default setting. You’ll see all the games when you first open the event.
- Seats Available: Tapping this will filter out all the games that are already full so you’re only looking at the games you could join.
- Going: Tapping this shows you only the games you’ve already committed to playing. This is a great way to see your schedule for the event and make sure you haven’t double-booked yourself.
- Filters
- Event type: You can choose to browse official events planned by the host or games planned by other attendees.
- When: You can choose to see upcoming or past games or input a custom timeframe. Seeing past games is useful for logging a play from a planned game.
- Playing time: You could search for a game to fill a gap in your schedule by searching for a specific play time.
- Domain: There are four domains on Aftergame: board games, role playing games, trading card games, and war games. You can choose what you see.
- Complexity: You can choose the weight of the game you want to play. Check multiple boxes if you want to see a range.
