Navigate the Events tab

From the Events tab, you can see conventions, plan local games and meetups, and see all the events you've previously attended. Let's break down the filters in the Events tab.

  1. When

The default is to show you upcoming games and events but you can adjust the list to show you games and events from the past or that are happening in a specific time frame.

    1. Upcoming: See all the upcoming events happening near you.
    2. Past: This view is most useful for finding a game you’ve just finished playing as it will only stay on the Upcoming page for 30 minutes after the scheduled start time. You might want to find the game you just played because you can easily log the play from there. It’s especially handy if you haven’t become friends with all the other players yet because you don’t have to search for them.
    3. Custom: You can enter a date range. This is especially useful for travelling when used in conjunction with the Where filter. You can see what events will be happening in the city you’re traveling to while you’re there.

  1. Where

By default, your results will be from the city you’ve set as yours, so you’ll see games that are in your local area and large events (like conventions) within a short plane ride.

You can change the city you’re browsing by tapping on Where. You might want to change your city if you’ll be traveling so you can plan games and events for when you’re away.

If you want to then check out a different city, tap Where again and Remove (X) your current selection then tap Where and enter your new city.

If you have the box above the search bar ticked, the city you search will either be saved or updated to your profile as your city (this will affect your default results on the events page).

Choose how far you’re willing to travel with the distance bar.

  2. All

You can choose to view everything, show only events, or show on planned games (the games will likely be part of a larger event).

  3. My Groups

This is a filter you can quickly enable and disable by tapping on it. When active, this page shows you only the events and games happening in all the groups you’re already a part of.

  4. Search

You can search here for an event name or a specific game. If searching for a game, if there are any relevant planned games, they’ll show up here. It’s a handy way of checking whether there’s any games to join when you’re want to try out that new exciting game everyone’s talking about!

  5. Filters

If you have events in your current list (meaning the filter from #3 above is set to All or Events), this filter shows options for attendance. If you have #3 set to Games, you can fine tune the results further.

    1. Attendance: Choose if you want to see games you’re hosting, going to, invited to, or not going to.
    2. Within an event?: Choose whether or not you want to see games that are part of a larger event.
    3. Playing time: Find games that fit your play style or social needs.
    4. Complexity: You can choose the weight of the game you want to play. Check multiple boxes if you want to see a range.
    5. Specific game: Another way for you to see if anyone is planning to play that particularly exciting game.
    6. Domain: There are four domains on Aftergame: board games, role playing games, trading card games, and war games. You can choose what you see.

You can also find events on a game’s page. If anyone is planning to play that game near you, you’ll see it. From there you can open the event and claim a seat.

Be aware that games shown here may be a part of a larger event which may be ticketed.

You’ll see these more if your area is active on Aftergame.
